Key Stage 2 BrightSparks Resources: Appalachian Spring
These resources are designed to help you and your class prepare for, or work in response to, the LPO's BrightSparks Key Stage 2 concert featuring 'Appalachian Spring' by Aaron Copland.
With extra information about the orchestra, music, and theme for the concert, the resource pack below, created by concert presenter Rachel Leach and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, includes suggestions for classroom activities and tips for teaching the participation song, ‘One Hundred Years Ago.’ It also includes some background information on Copland and the other repertoire performed in the concert.
Teachers who did not attend the concert will still find this resource pack useful for delivering lessons about orchestral music or Appalachian Spring.
Participation Song: One Hundred Years Ago
We encourage you to learn the audience participation song before coming to the concert. The words will be shown on the big screen so no need to memorise them! You can listen to the participation song on Soundcloud. If your school blocks Soundcloud and you need an MP3 file of the song, please contact [email protected]
We would love to see any work your children create using these resources! If you’d like to share this with us, please send it to [email protected]
