In the studio

The LPO has an extensive back catalogue of high-quality audio right from its first recordings with Sir Henry Wood just three days after our inaugural concert in 1932. We have worked with all the major labels as well as independent producers, and are broadcast regularly on television and radio. On record, outstanding interpretations of core repertoire sit alongside newly composed works.

The variety of our studio work spans from video game music, to adverts and film soundtracks (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Iron Man 3, Lawrence of Arabia, Dogma and East is East, to name a few). The LPO also provided the soundtrack to London 2012 by recording all 204 National Anthems for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In 2001, when I started recording The Fellowship of the Ring… I knew the players well, and I knew the sound of the Orchestra… I knew the sound that I could create with that Orchestra. So all the music for the trilogy was essentially created for the London Phil.

In concert

The London Philharmonic Orchestra performs to the highest artistic standards all over the world, working with globally renowned artists and reaching out to the broadest possible audience. We are known for our adventurous programming and versatility.

In addition to our core season, the LPO is regularly engaged to perform for a wide variety of events across many different genres including choral, opera, chamber, contemporary and cross-art forms. Some of the artists that the we have collaborated with in recent years include Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra, Ray Davies (The Kinks), Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe, Angelique Kidjo, Anoushka Shankar, AR Rahman and Michael Morpurgo.
