Celebrated cellist, Nicolas Altstaedt, plays Dvořák's beloved Cello Concerto.
At a Shrovetide fair in old Russia, crowds bustle and laugh as they watch the puppets dance, love, fight and die. None of it really matters; they’re just toys – aren’t they? Stravinsky’s Petrushka astonished audiences in 1911, and 112 years on its colours are as bright (and its emotions as strong) as ever. The excitement of Stravinsky is paired with one of Dvořák’s most memorable works, his Cello Concerto in B minor, whose lyrical melodies are brought to life by the wonderful Nicolas Altstaedt.
