Seven pieces inspired by the sea
The power, beauty and mystery of the ocean have inspired many pieces of classical music throughout history. Here are just some of our favourites.

The performers
Wildlife biologist and environmental broadcaster Liz Bonnin joins physicist and oceanographer Helen Czerski to explore the wonder and fragility of our oceans.
Known for TV documentaries such as Drowning in Plastic and Blue Planet Live, Liz shares insights from her work with the BBC and National Geographic, highlighting the urgent need to protect marine life, reduce pollution and restore the blue heart of our planet. Helen, a leading voice in ocean science and author of Blue Machine: How the Ocean Shapes our World, brings her expertise on the physics of the seas and their vital role in regulating Earth’s climate and sustaining life. Together, their perspectives will resonate alongside the evening’s ocean-inspired works by Vaughan Williams and Sibelius.
