Leo Melvin
Cello
Leo joined the LPO Cello section in July 2025.
Leo enjoys a varied career of solo, chamber music and orchestral playing. He graduated with honours from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2013, where he studied with the great Richard Lester. He then went on to study in Germany for a couple of years with eminent professors such as Troels Svane, Claudio Bohórquez and Kleif Carnarius.
Returning to London, Leo then began working with the top London orchestras including the LPO, LSO and Philharmonia, as well as giving solo recitals around the country. Several years later he joined the Villiers Quartet, and for the next five years performed the great string quartets including all the late Beethoven quartets.
Leo also teaches both cello and piano, and has a deep passion for great music. His favourite hobby is playing the piano and chamber music with friends, but he is also a big fan of science and reading.
