Susanna Riddell
Cello (Associate Member)
Susanna studied cello with Raphael Wallfisch at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She has worked with many of the UK's leading orchestras including the London Symphony, Philharmonia, City of Birmingham Symphony and Bournemouth Symphony orchestras.
Susanna was appointed to the Cello section of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1997. Her concerto work has included performances of the Dvořák and Haydn concertos.
She has long been involved in youth music, both as an adjudicator and leader of various education workshop projects, and recently took the opportunity to introduce the cello to a much larger young audience by performing on CBBC. In 2007 she was appointed Director of the Centre for Wessex Young Musicians and the 100-strong Wessex Youth Orchestra, based in Dorset.
Continuing to build on her conducting career, Susanna has discovered an appetite for tackling major works by composers such as Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky and Mahler. She has recently conducted at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall, directed Side-by-Side (professional/youth) orchestral projects in Sussex and Essex, and conducted at London’s Royal College of Music for a Vladimir Jurowski/Prokofiev project.
She continues to divide her time between her busy LPO schedule and working with talented young musicians across the UK.
