The Fairy’s Kiss: Ballet in Four Scenes
Vladimir Jurowski conductor
London Philharmonic Orchestra
Pieter Schoeman leader
One of the highlights of Vladimir Jurowski’s 14 years as Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra was his 2018 Stravinsky festival Changing Faces, which charted the composer’s creative journey and placed his music in context alongside those who influenced him. For Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky was a direct line to St Petersburg, the beloved city of his childhood, and nowhere is that more evident than in his magical ballet The Fairy’s Kiss and in the movements he lovingly orchestrated from Tchaikovsky’s great fairytale ballet The Sleeping Beauty.
The first volume of the series was featured in ‘Gramophone Editor’s Choice: The best new classical recordings’ in September 2022.
