‘No one can love the countryside as much as I do,’ Beethoven once said, ‘for surely woods, trees and rocks produce the echo which man desires to hear.’ But nature was not just a balm for the senses; for Beethoven it was evidence of the Creator’s hand. In his Sixth Symphony, Beethoven created a magnificent orchestral landscape in which the atmosphere of the countryside pervades every bar.
Former Principal Conductor and Music Director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra Klaus Tennstedt leads the Orchestra in these live concert performances of Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony and his Overture to Egmont.
