These recordings celebrate a legendary pianist, the late Aldo Ciccolini (1925-2015). Recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall during Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s tenure as Principal Guest Conductor when Ciccolini was in his mid-eighties, the two piano concertos on this disc are brimming over with his renowned lightness of touch and musical sensitivity.
In his sombre-tinged concerto, Mozart showed his mature side, transforming the piano concerto from polite entertainment to sophisticated art form. Later Rachmaninoff, emerging from years of creative block, poured his heart and soul into his Second Piano Concerto and created one of the most beloved works of all time.

Romantically glowing and tender, and with plenty of thrilling impulse when needed; music-making that draws you in – and back – for this is not a brief encounter.
