Vladimir Jurowski conductor
London Philharmonic Orchestra
The works on these discs show Richard Strauss at his most psychological and incisive. We move from the central struggle between man and nature in Eine Alpensinfonie, through Salome’s infamous and increasingly frenzied dance, to Die Frau ohne Schatten’s portrayal of the titular Empress’s search for a shadow, and with it, her place in the human world.
Recorded live with Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski, these performances were praised at the time for their impact and warmth and for the rapport between conductor and Orchestra.
