Sophie Phillips
Second Violin
Sophie joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra in April 2025.
Sophie started learning the violin aged seven in her hometown of Northampton. Growing up, she progressed through the many ensembles of the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust, and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for three years. Aged 18, she moved to London to study with Ani Schnarch at the Royal College of Music, followed by a masters degree with Krzysztof Smietana at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
After finishing her studies in 2020, Sophie was a violinist in the Southbank Sinfonia, and before joining the LPO worked as a freelance violinist in London and around the UK. She has performed with orchestras such as the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony and Bournemouth Symphony orchestras.
