The Sleeping Beauty

The music

Tchaikovsky The Sleeping Beauty (complete score) (3 hrs, including interval)

The performers

  • Vladimir Jurowski conductor

No living conductor is better equipped to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty than Vladimir Jurowski.

A young princess, a wicked witch, and a long, long sleep: everyone knows the story of Sleeping Beauty. Tchaikovsky’s brief was to turn it into a ballet; a sumptuous entertainment on a truly imperial scale. But you can’t keep a genius down, and this simple fairytale grew into a ballet score without equal, a feast of melody and an intensely human drama of destiny, redemption and (above all) love. No living conductor is better equipped to tell that story than Vladimir Jurowski, and when he conducted Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake with the LPO in 2021, critics hailed it as ‘thrilling’ (Bachtrack). Expect nothing less tonight.

Concert duration: 3hrs including interval.
