Passion, power, and peril collide in Mercadante’s long-lost opera.
Set against the turmoil of the First Crusade, Lea is caught between two worlds. Driven by passionate love yet bound by forces beyond her control, she must navigate danger and devotion in a war-torn land where violence, the ruthless pursuit of power, and unshakeable righteousness collide on all sides. Rosa Feola stars in Mercadante’s electrifying opera, brought vividly to life through powerful, moving music unheard for more than 150 years.

Carlo Rizzi conducted, and his ability to generate tension within a single phrase even as he drives the music forward in taut, gleaming paragraphs, made the whole thing gripping.
