Karen Hutt

Sub-Principal Percussion

Chair supported by Mr B C Fairhall

Karen joined the LPO as Sub-Principal Percussion in May 2023.

Karen grew up in Staines and benefitted from a policy of free instrumental lessons for all in her local primary school. This brought to life her interest in orchestral music and the world of percussion.

She went on to graduate from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, joined Southbank Sinfonia for its inaugural year, and has since enjoyed a successful freelance career before formally joining the LPO in 2023.

She has performed, recorded and toured with the Philharmonia, LSO, BBCCO, ENO, CBSO, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and other major groups, as well as many smaller ensembles across a range of genres and settings. She has also performed in West End shows including The Lion King, and on various film soundtracks.

Any spare time these days is spent on a selection of playground equipment and colouring in with her young daughter.

Karen featured in the ‘Backstage’ interview in our Spring 2024 edition of the Orchestra’s magazine, Tune In. Read the interview here.
