CD: Tchaikovsky & Lalo violin works

Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35
Lalo Symphonie espagnole, for violin and orchestra, Op. 21

Augustin Hadelich violin
Vasily Petrenko conductor (Tchaikovsky)
Omer Meir Wellber conductor (Lalo)
London Philharmonic Orchestra

Musical beauty is strikingly present in these two pieces written for violin and orchestra. Fascinatingly, Tchaikovsky was inspired to compose his Violin Concerto after he heard Josef Kotek play Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole; we hear the influence of Lalo’s fresh and unassumingly simple approach in Tchaikovsky’s Concerto.

From Lalo’s fiesta-like finale to the lyrical grace and virtuosic brilliance heard in Tchaikovsky’s Concerto, violinist Augustin Hadelich is ideally suited. Vasily Petrenko and Omer Meir Wellber conduct the London Philharmonic Orchestra in this pair of live concert recordings.
