Eduard van Beinum followed in the footsteps of Sir Thomas Beecham in 1949, becoming only the second musician to hold the Principal Conductorship of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This disc – extending a limited catalogue of issued van Beinum recordings – demonstrates something of the conductor’s eclecticism, enthusiasm for British music and ability to draw from his mid-century London Philharmonic Orchestra performances of the highest quality.
