The Power of Listening Sound Gallery at Vinegar Yard

Today, we launched 'The Power of Listening' Sound Gallery at Vinegar Yard, London Bridge – bringing music, art and a little bit of pause to one of London’s busiest corners.
Created by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with the Royal College of Art and Neville Brody, the ‘Power of Listening’ Sound Gallery invites people to stop, put on a pair of headphones and experience music in a different way.
The idea is simple: what happens when we listen deeply?
Eight postgraduate students from the Royal College of Art were each given a different piece of music to listen to. They each then created an original artwork in response – capturing the emotions, memories, thoughts and images the music sparked in them.
Today, Monday 21 September 2026, those artworks came together at Vinegar Yard for the first time.
Each piece is paired with headphones, allowing visitors to listen to the music that inspired it while experiencing the artist’s response. The result is eight very different interpretations of music – and an opportunity to explore the connection between what we hear, what we feel and what we create.

Art you can see by listening
The Sound Gallery is part of the Orchestra’s new long-term vision, ‘The Power of Listening’: an invitation to be part of something new, for audiences who already know the Orchestra and those who don’t yet.
And Vinegar Yard provides the perfect setting for the installation. In the middle of London, surrounded by the noise and movement of everyday life, the gallery offers a moment to pause and engage with music in a new way.
Each artwork responds to music the Orchestra will perform live this season, making the invisible impact of music visible – from getting the heart racing to helping the day melt away. It also offers a glimpse of what that music can become when experienced live, surrounded by the energy of an orchestra and an audience.

Visit the Sound Gallery
The installation is located at the entrance to Vinegar Yard, London SE1. From London Bridge station, head out towards St. Thomas Street and you’ll find the Sound Gallery as you arrive at Vinegar Yard.
The Sound Gallery will be on display here for two weeks, from Monday 21 September to Sunday 4 October. The headphones will be available for the first week only, from 12 noon–7pm each day, Monday 21 to Sunday 27 September.
During the first week, brand ambassadors will be on hand to help visitors get the most from the experience, with each artwork accompanied by headphones playing the piece of music that inspired it.
If you’re visiting outside of headphone hours during the first week, you can scan the QR code beneath each artwork to listen to the corresponding piece on your own phone.
The listening headphones will be available until Sunday 27 September, and the artworks will remain on display for a further week, until Sunday 4 October, giving visitors more time to explore the exhibition.
