In June 2024 our five LPO Young Composers debuted five thrilling new works for dance, all under the mentorship of the award-winning LPO Composer-in-Residence, Tania León. The movement was devised and performed by pairs of postgraduate choreographers from Trinity Laban: James Adamson, Valentina Vidal, Yun Cheng, Nina Murphy, Franziska Boehm, Sofia Pomeroy, Sarah Santos and Irene Fiordilino.
Filmed at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London’s Southbank Centre, these works were performed at our Debut Sounds: Sound in Motion concert by an ensemble comprising members of the LPO and participants on the Foyle Future First Development Programme, under the baton of LPO Fellow Conductors; Luis Castillo-Briceño and Charlotte Politi.
The Young Composers and works featured are:
- Eliana Echeverry – Disaporas
- Crystalla Serghiou – SALT
- Zhenyan Li – Extrapolating
- Phoenix Rousiamanis – Unfamiliar flesh
- Jasper Dommett – Zip, Zap, Boooooogie!!!
The video playlist features an introduction from Tania León, followed by all five new pieces, each introduced by its composer and choreographers.
