Fragrant Notes: LPO X Penhaligon’s

The LPO recently teamed up with British luxury fragrance brand Penhaligon’s to explore the relationship between music and scent in a social media campaign marking the 10th anniversary of Penhaligon’s Portraits Collection.

LPO violinist Cassandra Hamilton (pictured), cellist Henry Shapard and bassoonist Jonathan Davies star in video reels co-curated with Penhaligon’s to evoke the personalities of three iconic Portraits fragrances.

‘The Coveted Duchess Rose’, a fragrance of desire and beauty, finds expression in the soaring violin melody from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, performed by Cassi. The bold confidence of ‘The Blazing Mister Sam’ is captured by the effortless warmth of the opening cello melody from Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, played by Henry. And the plangent strains of the bassoon solo from the slow movement of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony, performed by Jon, embody the nobility of ‘The Tragedy of Lord George’.

The campaign was filmed at Penhaligon’s flagship Regent Street store for the LPO’s Instagram page, where visitors can also view some fun behind-the-scenes footage.
