R Strauss An Alpine Symphony
R Strauss Metamorphosen

Edward Gardner conductor
London Philharmonic Orchestra

Recorded live in concert at the Royal Festival Hall, this album captures the close artistic partnership between the London Philharmonic Orchestra and its Principal Conductor Edward Gardner, bringing together two strikingly contrasting works by Richard Strauss. In An Alpine Symphony, the LPO’s full forces create a vividly painted musical journey, bringing scale and impact to Strauss’s vast, dramatic soundscape. By contrast, Metamorphosen, for 23 solo strings, places the Orchestra’s distinguished players in the spotlight, revealing the refinement, balance and expressive quality of the LPO at its most intimate.
