Cuban-American composer Tania León brought her bold, vibrant voice to the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Composer-in-Residence (2023–25) – premiering ground-breaking works alongside mentoring our LPO Young Composers.
Her evocative Horizons (1999) mesmerised audiences at its UK premiere, while Raíces (2024) – a vivid fusion of Latin rhythms and jazz – explores León’s multi-cultural heritage. The Pulitzer-winning Stride (2020) honours US feminist pioneer Susan B. Anthony’s legacy, blending Caribbean and orchestral traditions with electrifying energy. Closing her residency, Pasajes (2025) painted a jubilant sonic portrait of León’s Cuban childhood – each piece propelling her as a defining voice of 21st-century orchestral music.
