Klaus Tennstedt conductor
London Philharmonic Orchestra
The first two scores Igor Stravinsky composed for Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes heralded the beginnings of a partnership that would span 20 years and eight ballets. They also catapulted the unknown young composer to overnight success and, soon after, notoriety. Under the baton of Klaus Tennstedt, the London Philharmonic Orchetra conjures Stravinsky’s magical world of Petrushka, a clownish puppet brought to life, and an enchanted forest, home to an evil demon-king, an intrepid prince and the mysterious Firebird.
