LPO Junior Artists: Overture Day – London July 2026

Calling young orchestral players! If you’re aged 11–14 and Grade 4+ standard on your orchestral instrument, come and join the London Philharmonic Orchestra at our free LPO Junior Artists: Overture Day on Tuesday 21 July 2026 at St John’s Waterloo. 

What to expect

LPO Junior Artists: Overture days are free, fun orchestral skills days where participants play alongside LPO musicians, get tips on musicianship and find out what happens behind the scenes of a professional orchestra.

At this summer’s Overture day, our theme is dance! We will play music from 19^th century Bohemia with Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance no.4, via raucous Paris and Offenbach’s Can Can, to modern classic Latin hit ‘Let’s Get Loud’ by Estefan & Santander.

Where and when?

The day will take place at St John’s Waterloo, 73 Waterloo Road, London, SE1 8TY from 10.30am – 4.30pm. At 4pm there will be a performance showcasing the pieces we have explored, which will be open to friends and family.

Applications are now open!

Applications are open to all but priority is given to those whose backgrounds are currently under-represented in professional UK orchestras (who may be eligible for the main LPO Junior Artists programme in the future). You can find guidance about the eligibility criteria for LPO Junior Artists below.

Please note that we are unable to accept applications from pianists, harpists or saxophonists.

The deadline for applications is 9.00am, Monday 15 June 2026. Note that there is no ‘save and return’ function so you will need to complete the applications in full.
