Isata Kanneh-Mason plays Beethoven
Repertoire
Performers
- Martin Rajna conductor
- Isata Kanneh-Mason piano
Strange but true: they used to call Dvořák’s Eighth his ‘English’ symphony.
Yet its lilting melodies and exuberant dance rhythms could hardly be more Czech – in fact, it’s hard to think of a composer who sounds more thoroughly at home, and loving it. Pure sunshine, in other words, and a gloriously tuneful climax to a concert that begins with Weber’s spine-tingling gothic fairytale. In between: well, you can’t have missed the buzz around Isata Kanneh-Mason, and tonight this superb young British pianist joins guest conductor Martin Rajna for Beethoven’s fourth (and most personal) piano concerto. Pure poetry.

Her ability to perform this fiendishly difficult piece was stunning, to watch her hands was mesmerising.
