BrightSparks – GCSE

Applications for this concert are now closed.

Do you know your binary from your sonata form? How would you describe syncopation? And how do film composers enhance the action on screen through music?

To find out, join the London Philharmonic Orchestra for our GCSE BrightSparks concert at the Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday 20 November¸ where we will explore a wide range of music from the Baroque period to the 21st century, from Bach to Bacewicz, and from the concerto to film music.

Presenter Rachel Leach will guide the audience through detailed musical analysis, with key terminology highlighted on the big screen, and excerpts pulled out of the music to enhance understanding. Audience quizzes are interspersed throughout to test students’ learning, while experiencing the impact of hearing the London Philharmonic Orchestra live, conducted by Jack Sheen.

The programme includes ‘Badinerie’ by J.S. Bach (Eduqas set work), the first movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No.1 (new AQA study piece), and film music (all exam boards) including Coates Dam Busters March (CCEA set work), as well as some musical surprises relevant to learning on all exam boards (including composers listed in AQA, Edexcel and OCR syllabuses).

Tickets are £3 for students, free for accompanying adults.
